5 Trends We're Looking Forward to in 2025
We're calling it: The year ahead will be a fun one for fashion. Things are looking big, by which we mean maximalized, oversized, and full of flair. Last year, we saw a transition from quiet luxury to in-your-face brat—and this overarching superlative will be smoothed out and refined in 2025. Every trend we're eagerly anticipating has an exaggerated element that puts the spotlight on personal style. Bag charms and charm necklaces let the world know what you're about? Very in. Layers on layers on layers of unique clothing pieces? You bet. Every trend, from boho chic to asymmetry, has an added oomph.
It's important for us to mention that just because something is trending doesn't mean you need to jump on board. Shopping with intention means incorporating trends that resonate with you without feeling like you need to be a cowgirl, a deep-sea fisherman, a ballet dancer, AND an old-money aristocrat. A great way to determine if a trend works for you is by narrowing down your three style words. Once you know those, you can ask yourself if a trend fits within your personal taste. If something doesn't make sense for you, you can love and appreciate the aesthetic without hitting “add to cart.”
That said, we've narrowed down the five 2025 trends we can't wait to see in the streets. Discover our trend crushes below.
Western Cowgirl
To explain why you'll be seeing chaps and spurs everywhere this year, we tapped Mitali Gupta, founder of the cowboy-boot brand Chalo.
"Part of the allure about Western wear is how versatile it can be. It’s grounded in history but leaves so much room for reinvention," she says. "There’s the deeper cultural shift happening—Beyoncé and Lil Nas X, for example, have reimagined what cowboy culture can be for many communities while challenging stereotypes of who 'belongs' in the Western narrative. It’s no longer about fitting into one narrow archetype; it’s about using the Western aesthetic as a way to express individuality and reclaim symbols of freedom and expression. It’s a mix of cultural nostalgia and reinvention, this time with a sharper focus on inclusion, identity, and a hint of defiance. And that’s what makes it so compelling at this moment in time."
Fisherman
An evolution of the coastal grandmother trend, fisherman aesthetic is nautical with more of a frayed edge. The base of any fisherman 'fit is a cozy cable-knit sweater, galoshes, a beanie, and a sardine stick-and-poke tattoo if you're really committed. Fisherman sandals are a given, and a rope bracelet or discreet anchor accessory sails the look home.
Bohemian Daydream
Boho has been back for a year now, ever since Chloé sent chiffon maxi gowns, ruffled trousers, and beaded accents down the catwalk for fall/winter '24. That ethereal '70s feel isn't going anywhere this year. Wear your hair loose and undone with billowy shirts and suede boots. There's a lot of opportunity for crossover with the western trend—think flared jeans with cowboy boots or a bolo tie.
Slightly Askew
A subtle (but impactful) way to shake up your style is to tilt it a little off kilter. Asymmetrical pieces add movement and personality to an otherwise square outfit. We're not talking the dramatic high-low hemlines of 2010, though. Look for asymmetric pieces that are shifted just slightly to one side—more like you threw it on while rushing out the door. Skirts are especially suited to asymmetry and pair well with cozy sweaters or boxy tops.
Loud Luxury
There will always be a time and place for quiet luxury (the office, meeting your in-laws, appearing as an extra on an episode of Succession), but this year we're looking for a little more personality and a little less understatement. Frankly, quiet luxury is just another name for minimalism. Pared-down brands like Cordera are adding subtle logos and creative accents, and it's easy to layer in patterns or color with last season's The Row. You can still be an minimalist, but a touch of flair will help you stand out from the crowd.
We'll be here all year watching these five trends play out and covering the latest and greatest aesthetic crazes. Can't wait to see what 2025 has in sartorial store.
